Understanding Anglican Ministry in a Belgian Context
As part of its Parish Administration Training Pathway, the Anglican Institute in Belgium (AIB) recently delivered a training session for members of the Chaplaincy Council of Holy Trinity Brussels.
The session explored the legal and administrative structures required for the effective governance of a government-recognised Anglican church in Belgium. Incoming Council members were given an overview of how the various legal bodies required under Belgian law relate to the governance structures established by Anglican canonical authorities.
Although a Chaplaincy Council has no legal standing under Belgian law, it plays a vital role in the life and mission of every Church of England parish. The training helped council members understand the distinct responsibilities of the different legal and canonical bodies, how these work together, and how the Chaplaincy Council contributes by discerning, supporting and promoting the parish's mission and vision.
