WILLIAM TYNDALE
Five hundred years ago, William Tyndale’s New Testament became the first English New Testament to be printed from the original Greek text. Tyndale lived in exile on the continent and was executed at the stake in Vilvoorde, north of Brussels, ten years later. His translation profoundly influenced the religion and politics of the Tudor age, as well as later translations and generations.
In celebration of the 500 years of the English New Testament, the Pro-Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the Anglican Institute in Belgium organized an Evensong service and a lecture on the life and legacy of William Tyndale on the 24th of October 2026 in Brussels.
Starting with an Evensong service, the Brussels Evensong Choir, under the direction of Margie Todd, beautifully carried the congregation in song and music, together with Rev. Robert Kozak, the Assistant Chaplain and Missioner of Holy Trinity Brussels presiding.
After refreshments at the Community Cafe of the church, an excellent lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. GUIDO LATRÉ, an Emeritus Professor at UCLouvain and Vice-Chairman of the Tyndale Society. He expertly guided the participants in the journey and story of Tyndale’s life, the history of his translation work, and the long-lasting impact Tyndale made on the English language and the religious and socio-political milieu of his age until now.
